To the Piz Arunda in winter

General description

This sunny tour rewards ski tourers with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The extensive ascent and descent terrain, surrounded by the highest mountains of the Vinschgau Valley, offers plenty of peace and untouched nature.

Route description

From the car park at Polsterhof above Clusio/Schleis the route runs along the “Schleiser Almenweg” (transport road). Then past the “Old House”, crossing the Kapajabridge and rising left west of the brook. On the flat farmlands “Schleiser Almböden” crossing the brook again and across the alpine trail up to the Laatscheralm (not open to the public) at 2,041 m. From the Laatscheralm southwest across gently rising hollows to a height of about 2,300 m, where the valley opens up. Keep to the right (northwards), sometimes steeply up to the long ridge, which then leads west to the summit.
Alternative Variant:
The summit can also be reached from the north. Shortly before the Laatscheralm keep right, follow the trail, which leads to the nearby Schleiseralm (not open to the public). Here it goes through the Schleiser valley always northwest; at first fairly flat, then slightly uphill in a left bend into the valley, direction “Kloangrubes”. Before Arunda and Costeras turn to the west over a beautiful terraced area, then continuing steeply over the eastern slope, carefully avoiding the steep slopes of the Costeras, up to the ridge and then continuing south to the summit of the Piz Arunda (panoramic view).

The descent is via the same route.
