The castle was built around the year 1250 by the count of Chur, Heinrich von Montford. Already in the year 1297 the complexe belonged to the Counts of Matsch.
In 1504, after the death of one of the Counts of Matsch, the castle buildungs became the Counts Trapp's property. In the year 1537 the castle became the Counts Trapp's property once and for all, and it is still today.
Traditionally, the Castle Churburg opens on March 20th. The gates are open to visitors until October 31st.
Groups can have guidet tours throughout the whole year after arrangements.
